National Sports Day is celebrated every year in India on August 29th.
This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand.
Major Dhyan Chand was a legendary figure in Indian and world hockey.

To celebrate National Sports Day on August 29th, the attention of the students of Std IX was drawn to the sport of Hockey and Major Dhyan Chand, whose birthday is celebrated as National Sports Day. Students were introduced to the life and contribution of Major Dhyan Chand, one of the greatest personalities in the history of Indian hockey.
Students were explained the technical details of Hockey and some of the rules of the sport. Students also attempted a quiz on the topic.
Students of Std VIIA actively participated in the National Sports Day activities conducted by the class teacher on August 29th in which they showed any form of fitness in their daily lives.
Std VIIB celebrated National Sports Day by sharing pictures and videos of themselves enjoying a sport or game.
They were excited to showcase how they keep physically fit by doing these activities during the lockdown.
For National Sports Day on August 29th, 7 students participated from VIIC. They drew posters of their favourite sportsperson, wrote detailed information about the sport hockey played in the Olympics and drew drawings related to sports.



August 29th is celebrated as the National Sports Day of India. This day, being the birthday of the legendary hockey player, Dhyan Chand also highlights the need for sports and development of children in aspects beyond the classroom. The students of Std VIA performed the following sports activities staying inside their homes during the pandemic : Bottle Flipping, Skipping, Hurdles & Coordination Championship.
