22nd December is celebrated as National Mathematics Day. In the morning assembly relevant and important information about this day was given to all the students like:
- The great Indian Mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan was also born on this day.
- He made great contributions in Number theory, continued fraction and infinite number series.
- Ramanujan was a self made mathematician.
- The main objective of celebrating Mathematics day is to create awareness about Mathematics.
In school, charts were put up about various Indian Mathematicians and a math exhibition was organized where children enjoyed playing mathematical games. Students participated in the Sudoku Workshop and Competition and also participated in the Quiz Contest and Fun with Math workshop held at Nehru Science centre, Worli. Conclusion - Math is a part of our daily Life. We see Math everywhere. It is the most beautiful and powerful creation of the Human Spirit.
After The School Assembly: To inculcate interest and curiosity in Mathematics among students, the following activities were conducted from 16th December to 22nd December 2022 from 2pm-3pm:
- Sudoku Workshop: A Sudoku Workshop was conducted by Ms. Candida and Ms. Rupal for the students of Std VII & VIII respectively and was attended by 75 students. Ms. Suparna and and Ms. Reena conducted it for all the students of Std IX & X respectively.
- Mathematics Games Fair: A Mathematics Games Fair was conducted by the students of Std V, VI & VII on 20th December from 8am to 1pm. 20 different games made by the students, based on different topics of maths were explained by 40 students in groups of 2s. Students of Std V to X attended the fair and played the games. Ms. Judith and Ms. Jenny took efforts in getting the games made by students of Std V & VII.
- Charts on Indian Mathematics: Charts on Indian Mathematics were made by the students of Std VII and VIII under the guidance of Ms Rita, Ms. Jenny and Ms. Rupal which were displayed in the open hall and corridors of Std VIII and IX. Ms. Joela took charge of the notice boards of Std V and VI floors. All the classes displayed charts of math topics in their respective classes also made under the guidance of their math teachers. Charts were displayed from 19th December.
- Sudoku Competition: A Sudoku Competition was conducted for the students of Std VII to X on 22nd December 2022. 89 students participated:
- 1st place - Ms. Zoya Porbundarwala
- 2nd place - Ms. Swamini Vengurlekar
- 3rd place - Ms. Shravani Parab and 12 consolation prizes
- Fun with Math: A workshop on 'Fun with Math' was conducted at Nehru Science Centre on 20th December, 2022 where 5 students from Std VII participated and were accompanied by Ms. Rita.
- Quiz & Puzzle Contest: A 'Quiz & Puzzle Contest' was conducted at Nehru Science Centre on 21st December, 2022 where 9 students (3 from Std VII, 3 from Std VIII & 3 from Std IX) participated and were accompanied by Ms. Rita & Ms. Reena.
