Menstrual Hygiene Day 2022

Std IX

(MasikPali Din) To increase awareness about the Hygiene to be maintained during a period, students of Std IX were provided with a video dealing with 'What Goes on During Menstruation' on May 27th, 2022. In addition, students were also sent a short animated film titled 'Menstrual Health & Hygiene'. This film explained away the misconceptions related to menstrual cycles. It also highlighted the health and hygiene measures that need to be maintained during a period. Parents & students were also requested to watch the movie PadMan, which deals with the similar issue. Students were then encouraged to present their learning through art, in the form of a drawing or an informative poster. Topics suggested were:

  • Menstrual Hygiene
  • Proper Disposal of Sanitary Pads

World Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed on May 28th each year, coinciding with the International Day of Action for Women's Health 2022, across the world. The day highlights the importance of menstrual care and raises awareness about the social issues faced by women during menstruation and those who don't have access to sanitary products. Why is May 28th chosen? Menstrual cycles average 28 days in length and females menstruate an average of five days each month (May is the fifth month of the year).

  • "To create a world where no woman or girl is held back because they menstruate, by 2030" is the theme of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2022. This means a world where every girl or woman is empowered to manage her menstruation safely, hygienically, with confidence and without shame.

The vision is to create a world where:

  • Everyone has access to and can afford menstrual products of their choice.
  • Period stigma and social discrimination is history.
  • Everyone has basic information about menstruation, including men and boys.
  • Everyone can access period-friendly water, sanitation and hygiene facilities anywhere in the world.

Along with spreading awareness through videos and discussion, this year on May 28th 2022, six students from Std 7 participated in drawing and innovative model making activities based on the absorbents used during menstruation and their proper disposal. The main focus was on using recyclable and eco-friendly resources.
